The SLG - Not Your Normal Tourney Marker
Are you dying to play tournament speedball but just can't muster up the cash for that $700-$1000 high end marker?
Unfortunately this is the case for most kids and young adults around the world today. But wait! Your luck might have just changed because of a company called Proto (Dye Precisions sister company). Proto along with so many other reputable companies started to recognize smaller returns in
tournament sales as a whole. What did Proto do? They created an inexpensive alternative for you called the Proto SLG (super light gun).
The Proto SLG
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

With an MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) of $199 and competing with markers such as Smart Parts popular ION marker, you can't go wrong. The SLG has an array of cool features, lets take a closer look shall we?
Noobie Note: Extra bits of information are added for those of you that would like to pretend you understand, but really in fact have a lot of questions. No need to feel embarrassed, we all have to start somewhere!

Core Features - What's In The SLG?
New Hyper3™ In-line Air Regulator
- Regulator helps take high pressure and lower it for more consistency in your shooting.
No-Rise Pressure Feed-Neck - The feedneck connects from the hopper to the marker allowing paintballs to drop and be fired.
Single Piece Proto Barrel - Some barrels are two piece, and even 3 piece. This just means you can screw 2 or 3 threads together to make the barrel.
Anti-chop Break Beam Eye System - Eyes are a component in the marker that detects a paintball in the breech. They are meant to stop your paintballs from breaking in the breech.
Orbital Rotating Sear Reduces Wear - The seer is inside the marker. What it does is holds the bolt in a cocked position until you pull the trigger.
Compact Lightweight Aluminum Body Weighing only 2lbs 2oz! - This is a great weight for a marker. Reduced weight helps for better
maneuverability (i.e.: Snap shooting)
Stamped metal insert Proto logo
New Self-Closing Valve (SCV) - The valve holds gas until it's ready to be fired
2-Piece Bolt
Multifunction Self-Lubricating Force Button
Super Low 145psi Operating Pressure - Very efficient on your air
Adjustable Reinforced Polymer Trigger
Ergonomic 45-Grip Frame - Nice
and comfortable for long hours of play
Proto Dual-Durometer Injection Sticky Grip
Program with Four Tournament Modes -
Semi - PSP -
Millennium - NXL
Proto Bottom-Line with Dovetail - The bottom line is where you connect your air source.
Operates on Compressed Air only -
This is a real bummer for Co2 users
The Good
User Friendly - You new guys won't have trouble figuring everything out with this marker.
Super Light Gun - Go figure hey? The SLG is 2.2 lbs
Consistent - The Hyper 3 Regulator operates on very low pressure and will have you shooting
consistent all day.
The Price! - MSRP $199 - Tournament markers don't get much cheaper then this dude!
Cleaning - Easy Easy Easy - Use the Allen wrench provided and remove the bolt, lube all the internals, and lube
'em good!
Accurate - Count on that single piece proto barrel to put paint on paint!
The Bad
Feedneck - Some hoppers have a tough time fitting into the tiny feed neck
Rating/Recommendations
I would seriously recommend the Proto SLG to anyone wanting to get in tournaments for a cheap cost.
Super light and fits nice and tight, the SLG is great
for snap shots, and running and gunning. I rate the SLG
a 4.7 out of 5, docking some points for
not being Co2 compatible. I can't stress enough how good
of a price ($199) the SLG is for a
starter tournament marker, look for a lot of companies
to try and compete with Proto's SLG entry cost. Let's
just hope you're looking down the barrel and not into
it...
Kits/Upgrades
If you want to pimp out your SLG to the max then the first thing I would suggest changing is the feedneck. Go with a clamping feedneck. Other upgrades
you can get, but are not necessary are a new barrel and
trigger. Remember, this is about making your SLG even better then it already is, it's already a great marker
right out of the box.
