Whether you're a parent or a player and you've just started to learn about
paintball - you've probably heard a lot 'danger' talk. There's 'guns' involved,
paintballs flying around at high speeds, trekking through the bush, etc.
It's natural to feel that paintball may seem like an
un-safe sport. As with all things that we humans don't
understand, we usually approach with caution. And that's
ok. But, I have some
surprising news for you. Here it comes, are you ready?
Paintball is considered one of the safest
sports in the world!
Yes, that's right! Each year there are barely any
injuries and over 16 million people play paintball world
wide! Pretty amazing for the amount of people that play.
If you're wondering how this is, read on and I will
explain to you exactly why paintball is safe, and tips
you can use to ensure your son/daughter's (or your own)
safety on the field.
Safety & Common Sense
When using the equipment safely, paintball markers should not cause
permanent damage anywhere on your body. Make sure that you always have a
BBD (barrel blocking device) this will stop any paintballs from
accidentally firing while you're off the field.
You ALWAYS wear
protective facial gear as it protects your eyes and face. Ski
goggles, or safety glasses are NOT acceptable, as they are not
engineered to withstand the force from a paintball flying over 200mph.
Believe me, you wouldn’t like it at all if a paintball hit you in the
eye, when you could have prevented it. Besides, everywhere you play
these days, it's mandatory!
It's imperative that you use Paintball Equipment safely and effectively
and use your head! If
your opponent doesn't have proper safety gear on, especially the much needed
goggle system, then you need to stop the game.
Safety Issues For Concerned Parents
As I say
- safety first, fun second! If you're going to play paintball, do it
the right way the first time, and avoid losing an eye, or spraining your ankle.
Always wear your mask when you're playing.
Wear proper footwear; high tops,
boots or
anything that supports your ankles is good.
Gloves for your hands, they'll
absorb most of the impact from a flying paintball.
Wear knee
pads and elbow pads, because you're probably going to be crawling and
kneeling a lot. This isn't mandatory though.
Parents don't be alarmed, this can all seem overwhelming, but just make
sure your child is wearing a mask and wearing the other paintball
gear I mentioned, and he/she will be fine.
