Welcome To Your #1 Online Paintball Source For Getting Started In Tournament Paintball
For Beginners. Here you're going to learn all the ways you can get
started in the tournament paintball scene!
I'll cover topics such as...
- Practice Makes Perfect
- Shape Up Or Ship Out
- Gearing Up
- Knowledge Is Power
- Networking Is Everything
~ Ready ... Set ...
Break! ~

You've pounded the local teams into the dust, and you're getting bored of playing against walk-ons and scrub teams that pose no challenge. You're longing for a bigger and better scene, one that will put your tactics to the test and give you a chance to get some recognition for your skills. The tournament scene is calling, but
where do you start?
~ Practice Makes Perfect ~
First off, before you're like, man..."I've heard this a million times before!", ask yourself this...How is it that Ollie Lang is a pro paintball player? He sure didn't get there by slacking off at practice and putting in half the effort.
Natural talent does come into play...fine, but 80% of
his elite play comes from hard work, dedication,
discipline and practice!
~ Running & Gunning ~
Proto PM8

One of the most important steps you can take towards becoming a tournament-quality player is drilling, both at the field and at home. Work on your
running and gunning to ensure that you can keep putting paint on target
while staying mobile.
You can work on this off the field by setting up a
garbage can lid or something similar in your backyard and strafing back and
forth, doing your best to keep your shots centered. What this will also
train you at is keeping your barrel up all the time, or as much
as you can, because a ready barrel is a ready shooter.
~ Snap Shooting ~
Snap Shooting is when you you bob in and out from behind a bunker while
placing 3-4 accurate shots down range. Snap shooting is important for obvious reasons, the less you are exposed the better your chance of staying in the game. If you're up for long enough to count to two, you're a target,
peek don't sight see. Sight seeing is something you definitely want to avoid at the tournament level of play.
~ Low Profile ~
At the field, make the most of your time by practicing staying tight to obstacles. Keeping a
low profile is absolutely necessary, as tournament players don't mess around when it comes to sniping protruding limbs.
Keeping your elbows in tight and crouching down will make you a smaller target. If you've got something sticking out, it's probably going to be covered in paint if you don't get in tight.
Get it in your head to be as small as you can, a low profile will keep you away
from ropes of paint.
~ Communication ~
A big thing overlooked in paintball is communication. I've seen it time and time again. You need to talk to your teammates if you want to accomplish any sort of goal, such as bunkering an opponent and
or moving up the field together. Try and make code words for different areas on
the field as this will make it easier to eliminate the other opponent.
~ Discipline ~
Remember that you get what you put in. If you're going to screw around with
drills, scrimmages then you're going to be bad, unless you have natural talent
like Ollie Lang (then again, he worked his butt off). In this sport, to be the
best you have to have discipline, dedication and most of all perseverance. Bottom line...put in some
solid effort and you will get solid returns!
~ Summary ~
- Practice Running & Gunning
- Practice Keeping Your Barrel Up
- Practice Snap Shooting
- Practice Keeping A Low Profile
- Practice Communication
- Practice...Practicing!

~ Shape Up Or Ship Out! ~
Paintball is an endurance sport that requires a fair amount of sprinting, stretching, and squatting during regular play. With that in mind, it should be pretty obvious that you're going to need to be in good shape if you want to compete. Exercising and eating right are both big parts of staying at the level of conditioning.
You'll want a good mix of cardio, stretching and plyometrics. Anything else you
add in there will only help.
A boxing or kickboxing fitness regimen is also a great way to get started, and you can tailor it to your needs as you go.
Make sure to stay safe during your workout regimen, regardless of how fit you are, you can't play paintball with a torn ACL.
~ What You Can Do To Exercise~
- 10 Minutes Cardio ~ Warm Up
- Stretching ~ Don't Skip This Or You Will Be Skipping The Game
Later...
- Squats ~ Do Them Fast & Explosively
- Lunges ~ Use A Little Bit Of Weight Here
- Plyometrics - Jumping Drills <-- Super Important
- Sprinting Drills ~ Do Sprints Back & Forth
- Weight Training ~ Optional, Go To The Gym
- Cool Down ~ Avoid Injury
By getting in shape you are giving yourself a huge advantage compared to your buddies who smoke and play video games 24/7.
So practice hard and work out!
